NEPAL Khumbu Glacier -- Dec 2005 -- A small glacial lake amid the moraine on the upper part of the Khumbu Glacier. A popular climbing route to the summit of Mount Everest (upper right) this glacier has retreated over 5km from where Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay set out to conquer the world's highest mountain in 1953. Scientists say these huge Himalayan glaciers are melting fast which could threaten Asia's water supply in the future having a devastating impact on the region's agriculture -- Picture © Jon Mitchell / Lightroom Photos
